FAQs

What is Blockheads?

Blockheads: The First Comic Strips & Graphic Minis is an original collection of comic strips and graphic mini-stories created by James Lee while incarcerated in a Missouri correctional facility. Through humor, relatable characters, and engaging storytelling, the book encourages literacy, personal responsibility, resilience, and positive decision-making.

Why use comics instead of a traditional book?

Research has shown that graphic storytelling can increase reading engagement, improve comprehension, and appeal to readers who may be reluctant to pick up traditional books. Comics provide an accessible and enjoyable way to introduce meaningful topics while encouraging continued reading.

Is Blockheads faith-based?

The book promotes positive values such as accountability, forgiveness, perseverance, and hope. While the creator's faith has influenced his personal journey, Blockheads is designed to be accessible to readers from a wide range of backgrounds and is not intended as a devotional or religious curriculum.

What makes Blockheads unique?

Unlike many comics created solely for entertainment, Blockheads combines humor with real-life lessons about choices, consequences, accountability, growth, and hope. It was created from lived experience by someone committed to helping others build a better future.

Is the book educational?

Yes. While entertaining, Blockheads encourages:

Is the book appropriate for correctional facilities?

Yes. Blockheads was developed with correctional and reentry audiences in mind while remaining appropriate for general readers. Organizations are encouraged to review the content to determine whether it fits their specific programming and institutional guidelines.

Is the book appropriate for youth?

The book is generally recommended for older teens and adults. Because every organization serves different age groups, we encourage educators and youth organizations to review the content and determine whether it is appropriate for their audience.
